How do you check the balance of a credit/debit card after purchasing?

I tried calling the card company, but I needed the SSN to continue with the call and get the balance.

don't use Netflix to check your card is live or not because if the same card is used by owner on netflix then it will burn.

always use adobe trial products to check card is live or not, go to adobe website, select any product and select free trial and use that card info, if trial order accepted then card is live because adobe will check card is live or not, one more thing do check your card on set up, so that this trial order session recorded in your cookies and you are good to go for your carding.

For balance, i would like to suggest pick good cards with full info to check balance because there is no particular method to check balance if you don't have card owner full info.
