Pure B.S.
All Apps are designed as a Mouse Trap.
Shazam was invented to detect your voice, anywhere,
to know where you are, even if you change phones daily.
even if you steal phones to random people on the street, and talk for just 1 second.
like GTA when you have 5 stars *****,
they will use the mouse trap to hunt you down.
does Not matter who is right and who is wrong.
is just about Power, control, fear, lies & manipulation.
Not about Freedom or Truth,
Freedom is dead.
Truth died long ago.
Trust No One.
So... imagine a dystopian future... the year is 2025... following the pandemic, and the nuclear war between NATO and Russia and covid crash of '22, the EU collapsed and was taken over by Russia, China took advantage of the opportunity and took over the Far East after a short nuclear war with Japan, whilst the US fleet was forced to defend Australia from Chinese invasion. Technocratic police states have assumed control of what used to be called "the free world", but now looks more like Oceania, Eurasia, and Eastasia... the remnants of the various darknets form the resistance; what hardware and software set up will you use to communicate with members of the global resistance, in this hypothetical, and slightly plausible scenario?

idk, i gotta live in the moment to know. if theres no icann internet, theres no tor. you always need friends irl you can trust, as you blast your way together through government lines, building a new internet, of which these warring governments could not even take down while working together.
as you keep going, you will eventually find the rest of us from dread.
so hardware and software? whatever i find, whatever i got, whatever i make. i got many machines at home, antennas and radios, all with ways to power them from the sun. i got copies of many different mesh networking softwares saved to more than one ssd. i bet i can duck tape something together.
so as you dream of these conspiracies, do you have any friends who you can share this trust with? if you do, you are pretty much ready for 10x worse. if not, no big deal, neither did i at one point. go get some before you get stomped by a situation 10x better.

I would create an Lora off grid communication system

not dreaming of conspiracies, weighing up trends, data, and cost-benefit analysis, to create scenarios to test ideas out against. It's harmless stuff, and intelligence agencies do it routinely. Friends can fail; self-reliance is key.

This was info gleaned from an FBI document obtained through an FOIA request. They did not make any mention about their capabilities when it comes to Session.

The fact that you and a literal coterie of shills continually advocate for it makes me wary of it. The fact that the majority of its' developers are Australian is also a concern, given the trifecta of police state legislation passed in Australia in the last several years. (Access and Disript Bill, AABill, Data Retention Bill).

The code is here to be examined to your will https://github.com/oxen-io I am not saying you should use it I say you should probably consider it more than Imessage or whatsapp... That is a fact...
Having Australian developer has nothing to do with it as its open source and you can check the code or change the code yourself Australian or not... Decentralize has no land still I would not use a phone over PGP... Stay safe

Burner phones are generally a terrible idea. PM me if you would like to know why. You will be a lot safer using your personal smart phone registered in your name.

I use sessions. It seems legit and the nodes actually run through where they are saying to.

The app is decentralized so the aussie government cant do anything about it

We had a guy running for Prime Minister who wanted a list of people who downloaded porn. He came 2nd.
Most of our ISPs blocked access to Voat, Kiwifarms and 10 other sites in their DNS. Torrent sites are blocked too.
Don't trust anything based in Australia.

Nailed it. I now consider Australia a full-blown surveillance state. Between the data-retention, the AABill, and the Identify and Disrupt Bill, Aussies are fucked right up the ass. I just read something the other day that said that the cops were only supposed to get metadata from the data-retention -- the article revealed they were getting entire URLs. So, your entire surfing history is now an open book to these fuckers.
I also read at the time that the data-retention went through, that sales of VPNs went through the roof. No wonder. You guys haven't even got a Bill of Rights.
P.S.: Now Australia and the U.S. have signed the Cloud Act, which means that Australian police can get a local court order and use it to compel American service providers to provide information to the Australian cops, without recourse to the American courts. I'd be getting all my data off of U.S.-owned/hosted services.

Thanks for posting this (even though you're a jackass).

>Threema

This sounds like the best out of the bunch. It does everything you would want a secure private messaging app to do. *keeps reading*

Aww....This absolutely sounded like a dream app, until I realize it costs money :(

It's 24.84/year USD. They're based in Switzerland, so I'm assuming they don't take EU?

https://threema.ch/en/work/pricing

According to the pictures on the bottom of their page they accept bank transfers, BTC, mastercard, paypal & visa. So, no XMR for you Monero lovers.

>WhatsApp

Never, EVER EVER use Whatsapp for discreet discussions. It's owned by Facebook (Meta) and even though it's E2E encryption, they still say the data which they will decrypt for law enforcement.

Wickr is the one I'm interested most, as I spent the most time investigating it. All their reporting is very solid. I'm very curious what this line means though.

>Number of external IDs (email addresses and phone numbers) connected to the account, bot not to plaintext external IDs
themselves.

That might be for versions of the corporate/military Wickr, so it might not apply to WickrMe. But, never give a legit email to WickrMe. I recommend https://www.spamgourmet.com. It's a great service. I don't remember when I first signed up if they asked me for a phone number, but just make a fake Google account and add a Google Voice account to it. I'm pretty sure they allow VoIP address.

Counterpoint: Another Viewpoint on Wickr & It's Safety as a Secure Messaging App
/post/cb8425dd16cccc17a7c8

This is the thread where I looked at their transparency reports, why Amazon bought Wickr (it was for huge military contracts, and Amazon doesn't give a shit about WickrMe or WickrPro), as well as two studies with forensic data where scientists attempted to crack the text in Wickr and were able to do to do so in two different studies.

The problem isn't with all these apps though, it's all the scammers that use them to stay anonymous or impersonate another user to rip people off :/

But, thanks for posting.

If you like Threema, but find the fact that it costs a whole $3 off-putting, you should check out Session (getsession.org). The client was forked from Signal (so it's based on a mature and trustworthy codebase). Instead of using phone numbers/email as identifiers, it uses public keys. Accounts can be recoered with a seed, just like crypto wallets.
On the backend, it routes messages through Lokinet, a new onion router that is part of the Oxen blockchain ecosystem. Unlike TOR/I2P, which rely on altruism to recruit node operators, in the Oxen ecosystem node operators have a financial incentive. The same mechanism that provides node operators with a profit incentive to run nodes also protects against Sybill attacks, because in order to spin up a node you must stake 10k OXEN (currently approximately $5500). this makes Sybill attacks cost astronomically more to perform than they do on TOR/I2P.
Edit: I was not aware Threema has a monthly fee, in addition to the $3 they charge for buying the app.

Thanks for posting this. It is important to have secure comms.

I still think PGP is the best way to encrypt messages
