So I want to purchase some groovy things off the dark web, but I'm not sure how to get bitcoin.
Do I just go out and buy it, and then put it in a wallet?
How do I keep others from knowing my information when I buy them?
Also, is it possible to use a giftcard to buy things as well without it compromising my information? I'm talking like go to the store, buy a card, and then use it to purchase things.
Any info you can provide would be much appreciated.

I promise you, you do not want to buy Bitcoin. You want to buy Monero off of local Monero and use that to buy the things on here. Bitcoin is perfectly traceable and if you use it, you will end up in a cell.

That isnt correct at all.
Please only share fact's.
Once BTC - XMR has been swapped, it leaves no trail back to the original crypto purchase.
That's not to say things could change at any moment..

wouldn't it be perfectly safe to purchase bitcoin from a p2p, non kyc exchange on the darknet and then make any purchase with that bitcoin also on the darknet? My understanding is that the reason using bitcoin is unsafe is because of pattern analysis, but it seems impossible to trace bitcoin transactions to a real person if ALL transactions are conducted through the dark net and you keep your mouth shut irl.

100% correct.
If the BTC exchange has none of your ID details, you use cash to purchase the crypto and keep it in an offline wallet, you should be golden.
Of course, taking that extra step to convert it to XMR, would be even better.
If I have missed something, Im sure /u/HeadJanitor will assist ;)
