Are giftcard generators/checkers legit?

It sounds like they just generate random card codes until it finds a valid one (which can be checked somehow) and even if it works the value could be anything. I've seen some software going for a couple dollars and some services at a dollar per attempt at generation so it's not like it would be much money down the drain, but still.

instead try carding payment gateways or airbnbs or tickets or flights or food or webcam sites or casino sites

They don't work and if u really wanna get some to test they have a backdoor usually so don't download it on ur main OS.
